Thankyou for taking a few steps with me through these post partum weeks! There is this World of Warcraft achievement called: ‘What a long strange trip it’s been’, after completing many seasonal quests, and I feel like I have now achieved it 😬

I’m not sure yet how to put these past post-partum weeks in one post (but I am working on a painting).

A rambling attempt:

These were intense weeks of recovery after the succesfull homebirth of my daughter Louise, but also a speedy ride to the hospital afterwards after an unfortunate HPP. The ambulance ride - without my just born daughter, was one of the darker moments of my life I gotta say.

But.. I moved through. I wondered about that life-death portal moment, of which I knew was there when you birth your child. I think in the ambulance I truly faced it. I believe I wasnt in life danger - because my team moved so quickly. But that sudden seperation of your home and the question of ‘can they fix me’ and the.. well.. the ‘what if I dont see my family again’ and the very very shitty ‘I barely held my daughter’ were absolute deep deep poop shit extreme no thankyou 500.

But they patched me up in the hospital and got my uterus working again. I’m still not sure what happened, the home birth had went so well! It felt like.. I had left some important puzzle pieces scattered deep inside of me from the (traumatic) birth of my son, and together with my doula and Johan and the obstetrician I have now went back to pick them up.

And I do have to say, after a couple nasty hours in the hospital I.. saw the puzzle complete? I’m still searching for a fitting description. Johan had rushed after the ambulance with Louise (while Aleksander just slept through it all in his bed) - 1 hour old, in the car. And when I finally got to hold her again I felt it. I saw it. Bathed in it.. love. Nothing more, nothing less and everything all at once. Love.

And despite the intensitiy of recovery and handling two kids and breastfeeding (also new to me) and chaos. I still feel it. And I hope.. that I will keep feeling it!

Arrived in her beautifull new home in one piece ♥️

A couple months ago bowls older sister unfortenately broke during shipping, and I gotta say that it was a bit of a daunting idea to remake her. But the kind customer gave me her patience and trust and now she received her new bowl - painted with the coots coming together to melt the ice, made actually with the customer in mind. Making it more personal. Thankyou for your patience Corinna!!

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m off to the land of the inbetween 🤝🌌🚀My pregnancy hormones - at almost 37 weeks, make me feel like I’m one foot in another dimension and slowly but surely I’m letting go of.. I dont know.. the things that seem very important when I’m not pregnant.

I knew that if I’d ever get pregnant again, I wanted to fully experience the hormonal trip that it can bring. The last time (4 years ago) it freaked me out, so I RAN through it. But, now I am leaning in. Slow my pace.
I don’t know if that sounds weird, but giving birth seems to open a deeper portal to life (for a little moment in time). A layer that our rational mind cant make sense of. To welcome our children. I’m quite happy that it’s there. I wish someone had prepared me better for it 4 years ago - so this feels like a second chance.

Maybe the good hormones hit extra hard, because this was a tough pregnancy. I think the turn around was around 33 weeks, so that took a while! So even though I’m smiling on all these photos, I.. well.. I dont know how to explain. Let’s just say that this year has changed me in a couple ways 😁 I can appreciate the simple things so much more. Like Aleksander putting on my support socks on my turtle feet today. Thats all I need. And a couple rice waffles with peanut butter.

Anyway, off to my maternity leave! Ill be around probably, I like the contact with you guys. Big hug and thank you for being here ❤️

This summer, I organised two ceramic ‘thuisworkshops’ that could be followed from home 🏠 A creative vase workshop and a cup workshop.

In total, 85 people participated and that was awesome. That so many people trusted me to give it a go! To see.. how this concept has come alive and how it works and how everyone can express themselves!

Every work was hand glazed by me or @esther.brinkers.ceramics (DANKJEWEL WOW). The videos were created by me, and to be sure that I didnt go to fast I had someone next to me that doesnt clay all the time. For the vase workshop this was @xjippp (which was cosy, with our pregnant bellies) and with the cup workshop my husband Johan. Thankyou all so much for helping me out! ❤️❤️❤️🫶🫡

I’d like to update the ‘Great Tits and Friends’ collection with a couple new friends, somewhere in August. A little boat to set free on the waters, while I move into my cocoon between the reeds, in my nest 🥚

I don’t have an exact date to launch them, I’d rather not. Just calmly, I’ll let you know in time. There will be a couple cups, tiles and maybe some bird figurines.

This week had excellent snippets for the memory box. Paradoxally it was also a VERY hormonal week for my pregnancy (entering the 3th trimester wednesday!) so extra reason to highlight the sunshine moments ❤️

1. A Christien in her atelier (by @esther.brinkers )
2. Me and my son working on a piece of art in the Belgian Ardennes. A dream coming true.
3. Coffee and baguette at my favorite boulangerie. It all tastes so good there.
4. A very quick visit to the Good mom Bad mom expo at Centraal Museum Utrecht (found it a bit confronting so we fled. I did get an idea for a ceramic tile though)
5. The bikeride that cured the wayy to long car ride home from Belgium. At first I missed the deep green that the Ardennen have, but then I stepped on my bike (hometown Groningen) and felt deeply home again.
6. That heron that we passed on the bikeride needed a cup (bisque fired).
7. Homegrown strawberries in a homemade ceramic bowl
8. The first bird that I caught on camera, this year, in the little center garden that my atelier looks out on. A sparrow ❤️
9. My friend Esther who has been following my online ceramics course (and purchased the bakeservice, link in bio for more info) and is checking out a load of her freshly bisque fired cups. She is already selling them and I'm very proud. I have tested the materials that she works with for the past 7 years, and she now shows that you are pretty quickly good to go if you want to follow the course and then sell your works! Earn that course back. I freaking love that. Proud clay mom!! @esther.brinkers.ceramics

Little visual notes on yesterday’s market ❤️

Markets are a LOT of work and they don’t perse bring much money back into the wallet, but as an artist I feel the importance of doing them once in a while.

You create this little world at a table, your world.
It invites your creative brain to look at a new angle at your works. And you can work together in bringing it to life (the white display was painted by Aleksander). I LOVE the together part (thankyou @dian_haverkort_photography for inviting me and thankyou @esther.brinkers.ceramics for being this cool sister who enjoys adventuring together with me).

You can also see how ‘new’ people respond to your works first hand (@janna.rutten made an inspiring post about this experience) and you place yourself ‘out there’ and that can bring unexpected meetings along (at a christmas market a while ago I met a real life ferris wheel maker and I’m still invited to visit - which I should).

So here, a little visual note. To creating and existing in this world and showing people that.

I’d like my next market to be a ceramics market or art market!

You can step off your bike upcoming saturday at the Lauwersnest (Lauwersoog) market, from 11:00 - 16:00 to see them yourself!

A couple months ago I realized that I’d love to do a little market this year. Only - markets tend to overstimulate me and I’m not that sure where my works would fit best right now. A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine invited me to the small market of Lauwersnest (Lauwersoog), on the edge of the Netherlands, where these birds roam freely.
She would display her bird photography of which I’m a big fan (@dian_haverkort_photography ) and it felt like such a good fit (even though I will probably take a nap cause of pregnancy tiredness). So I’m giving it a go, and I will bring some nice new bird friends along! Be welcome, its a nice place to be ❤️

When you birth a child there is this tiny document that gets birthed with it. It has your signature, but you haven’t read the tiny letters because you’re a bit distracted by this tiny human that leans on you for survival.

When your child grows, it appears that the document that you signed for, holds chapters that you’ve had no idea about. Chapters for example, about feeling love in a way that you’ve never experienced before. Like seeing a new color. Your heart will grow - often painfully so.

But also - and thats a hard chapter... You will revisit the difficulties from your own life. But this time with your child, that looks up to you like you have all the wisdom of the world. And often - it’s a secret, but you don’t. There are things from your childhood that you never want to revisit again. But weirdly so, the document that you signed for promises you will, at least for a couple times. And then you get a choice.

To run.

Or to start over. Together with that tiny hand in your hand, while holding your own tiny hand within yourself.

Today was one of those days. I expect there to be many more, because the hands that should have held my tiny hand chose to run. And I understand. But today I didn’t run. We started over.

I’m so proud of him. I said to Johan this evening: I could have never guessed that we would give life to such an incredible human.

He knows what the heck he wants and voices it. He grabs people by the hand when he has a plan, because his plans need to be carried out and he loves to share that. While I can be a bit of a grump when I walk outside, he is made of pure sunlight and makes people smile everywhere. I just.. would have never guessed. That his sunshine, is made of our sunshine.
We have it as well, but sometimes the world around us builds walls and it gets blocked. We might forget that its even there, we get so used to the walls.

But if there is one thing (of many) that kids show us, its that we do have it. The sunshine. And they have the tools to break down those walls, cause they don’t give a shit about walls. Its our job as adults to stay curious and shut the heck up every once in a while and just listen. And see. And feel. And then.. there it is

Which was weird because the past time has been intense, softly put. And putting the team together is.. intense aswell.

But the idea that I was claying, perhaps at the same time as someone who ordered the eggholder home workshop.. I don’t know, it made me feel this collective feeling. We all try, we all do our best and I get to spread my love for clay. Nothing is perfect, but today was good. This 3 year old dude sold his first painting today! I am in absolute awe!

It went in an organic way. Someone entered the atelier, Aleksander proudly showed his work because it had finally dried and the customer unexpectedly fell in love with it. I cant describe my pride man!!

When asked how much Aleksander wanted for his painting he became silent, because money doesnt really mean anything to him. So I helped him out and said, maybe enough for a new Brio train (Brio trains are life). He eagerly agreed and then ran around with a 10 euro that I was pretty sure that he was going to rip up (a classic) but he didnt. So I guess its time to make him a little ceramic saving pot 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

Did I say that I’m crazy proud? Ha!! I ALMOST said to him: ‘now you are a real artist!’ But I swallowed that one in time, cause other people shouldnt determine if your’re an artist. You know that you are an artist 🌞🫡❤️

Morgen ga ik op pad om de klei pakketten af te leveren in Groningen en een straal van 20km daarbuiten! Vandaag is de laatste dag dat je, je kunt inschrijven voor deze creatieve keramiek workshop voor thuis 🎨 waarbij je een waxinelichthouder leert maken!

Je mag de workshop samen doen (zo zijn er bijvoorbeeld vier buurvrouwen die samen de workshop gaan volgen) of alleen. Je krijgt de klei thuisbezorgd en een link naar een uitleg video die ik samen met mijn man voor je heb opgenomen (om te laten zien dat mannen dit ook kunnen en dat het zelfs stiekem wat sexy is om een ADHD man rustig te zien worden van klei ;).
Na 10 dagen haal ik je werk op, bak en glazuur ik hem voor je en daarna is hij ready for use! Leuk toch? De kosten zijn €35,- per persoon.

Annd also, finally evenings of sitting at home (right now) and enjoying the silence inside my head. No more busy to-do lists birds who peep and sing and chat. Just me and the cats on the electro blanky, with a book ❤️👌 making small plans for the future, ticking off boxes that needed to be ticked off, like for example: we moved the big kiln to a new power source today!! With the help of a couple very friendly humans!

Tomorrow (or kinda today cause Im typing this a bit late) we’ll do a drink @studioboter and I will apply Aleksander for pre-school. I will also finish the birth-card of a dear friend.

While I’m placing the dots on the i for the collection that releases this sunday (I just really wanted one perfect cup in it, there are 7 options baking in the kiln as we speak, plz kiln Gods give me a good cup) I realized that I have made a decision that I havent really said out loud yet: A couple exclusives of the Boterdiep collection are joining the release aswell!

These works are incredibly dear to me and have travelled around Groningen this year. Some have flown into a new home, some are waiting for a set of hands to welcome them. They are now ready to land! A couple recently came back from a gallery and while putting them in the atelier I realized: you guys deserve to be used, as I intended when I created you.
I know most people might be anxious to use them, but still. They deserve a chance.

I feel like.. I can now let go. I’m now ready to move into something else, and to be able to do that I needed to find a way to share this knowledge that I’ve been carrying. I couldn’t just let the workshops go. They have helped me so much, made me connect with people. My atelier created a safe haven for me in a confusing world. And helping so many people in their creative process, that was a deeply inspiring and curiosity invoking thing to do. No one has ever made the same cup twice in my workshops.

I’ve just finished filming the handbuilding videos for the online handbuilding course ❤️🍷

This is my first ‘passive income’ project. In my 6/7 years of doing this work, I never had the time to properly make a project like this. You need to have the time to put in loads of un-payed work, before it (hopefully) pays out.

But I gotta say, once I got into the flow I really found back my love for film-making and long editing evenings. The cool thing is, to market this course, I will need more filmmaking. Nice 😎

Now onwards to an editing weekend, filming the polish, underglaze and glaze lesson and then everything is ready for you December 1th!!!
